Starting May 1, the Michigan Secretary of State will begin to offer honorably discharged veterans the option to display their veteran status in bold red print on the front of their Michigan driver’s license or state ID. This effort is made possible through the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency.
According to the Michigan Secretary of State’s website, veterans renewing their cards, or applying for one for the first time, can provide proof of honorable discharge to receive the designation on their card. Veterans will only pay the normal renewal fees for the license/state ID. Those who wish to add the designation to a license before the official renewal date will be required to pay a small fee for purchasing a duplicate card.
The new designation will make it easier to receive special offers, discounts, or recognition.
