The Lawrence A. Frost Collection of Custeriana is a multimedia collection that includes over 5000 books, videos, numerous images, journals, newspaper articles, sound recordings and art work.  It focuses on the life of General George A. Custer which includes his academic work at West Point, his heroic participation in the Civil War and his death at the Battle of the Little Bighorn. 

All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players. (William Shakespeare, As you Like it) The aura of General George Custer continues to attract the imagination of authors and even some playwrights.  Recently added to the Custer Collection are these works of theater and fiction:

Custer! A Musical

Written by Thom Goddard, this play takes the viewer into the world of events that led up to the Battle of the Little Big Horn in June, 1876.  The story is intertwined with the harsh reality of the life of a soldier on the plains and the struggle of Native Americans to preserve their way of life.  The music and lyrics included in the book were written by Dale Newman and include songs that reflect the loneliness of the soldiers and their moral struggle.

Playing Custer: A Novel

Author Gerald Duff creates a fictional tale about two Indian War re-enactors who suddenly find themselves as main characters in the real Battle of the Little Bighorn.

In Robert Conroy’s novel, history is reinvented when Custer defeats Sitting Bull at the Battle of the Little Bighorn and goes on to be made President of the United States.
