Navarre Branch Reopens in Temporary Location

L.S. Navarre Branch Library Opens in Temporary New Location

The Monroe County Library System is pleased to announce the L.S. Navarre Branch Library will reopen at a new temporary location on Monday, February 3, 2025, resuming their previous business hours. “We are so excited to be opening again and welcoming the neighborhood back into the library,” said City Library Manager, Amber Reed.

The branch will offer four public computers, room for story time, some programs and a modest-sized browsing collection.

The original location of the L.S. Navarre Branch Library, on Second Street in Monroe, is currently undergoing extensive renovations and is expected to reopen early next year. “A project of this scope never happens in a vacuum. We are grateful for our partnerships with the City of Monroe and Oaks of Righteousness/The Village Market. We also send our thanks to Amber Reed and the Navarre Staff, along with the Maintenance and Technology Departments for diligently working through each step of this journey,” said Nancy Bellaire, Library Director.

About the Renovation Project

The renovation of the L.S. Navarre Branch Library is part of the City of Monroe’s vision to create a community campus that will house the Navarre Branch, Learning Bank, and the Opportunity Center. The renovations will focus on improving accessibility, upgrading technology, and creating inviting spaces for study, collaboration, and community events.

The initiative is made possible through a generous $7.8 million dollar grant from the State of Michigan. “We are incredibly grateful to the City of Monroe for their support, through this grant, which allows us to make significant improvements to our facilities,” said Library Director, Nancy Bellaire. “We understand that the library is a vital resource to our community, and we appreciate our patrons’ patience. These renovations will help us create a modern and welcoming space that meets the evolving needs of our patrons.”
