Important tax news:

Due to changes made to the Tax Forms Outlet Program, which offers tax products to the American public through distribution in post offices and libraries, the IRS has reduced the amount of tax forms, schedules and documents provided in print format.  The only federal tax forms that will be printed by the IRS for distribution include Form 1040, Form 1040A and Form 1040EZ.  The IRS is not printing booklets for libraries to distribute to the public.  Taxpayers can call 800-829-3676 or visit IRS.gov/orderforms to request forms and instructions to be delivered to their homes by mail.

The Monroe County Library System will continue to assist the public with their tax needs by providing access to online forms and reproducible tax books, along with printed copies of select tax forms still provided by the IRS for distribution.  Reproducible Federal and State of Michigan tax forms and instructions will be available at most library branches.   Other forms will be available online or from a reproducible tax book.

For the latest updates on available tax forms, please visit our Tax Forms and Resource page

In order to assist the public with the changes made to the Tax Forms Outlet Program, the Library has increased the number of free copies patrons may make for tax related printing.  Patrons may print up to 15 pages from the reproducible tax book or online tax related pages free of charge.  Those doing so are invited to see a staff member to assist them with printing.

Tax forms still provided by the IRS are scheduled to arrive at MCLS branches by the end of January, continuing through the month of February.  Please contact your local branch to find out if the form you need has arrived.

The Monroe County Library System also invites the public to attend our annual Tax Tip informational series, presented by Carlotta Congioloso of H&R Block.  Ms. Congioloso will provide advice on filing income tax returns, with an emphasis on how those filing for the Affordable Care Act should proceed.
