Monroe County has implemented an emergency notification system to contact county residents and businesses via recorded phone messages on land telephone lines and cell phones, as well as via text messages and e-mails during emergencies. Called MCANS, this system allows Monroe County residents to sign up to receive emergency information from both the Emergency Alert System and the Community Notification System.
Visit the website to create a profile and sign up for alerts. Upon registering, residents are automatically signed up to receive emergency notification, but may also sign up for Local Snow Emergencies, Public Health Information, School Emergency Notifications, Local Road Closures, County Road Closures, Drinking Water Alerts, and Community Notifications.
From the MCANS website, users will also have the option to sign up for free Weather Alerts. Users may subscribe to one county and may define up to four contact paths.
When planning an emergency strategy, be sure to Check Out the Monroe County Library System for books, DVDS, government documents, and sound recordings that will point you in the right direction.
