Microsoft Ending Support for Windows XP and Office 2003 Products
On April 8, Microsoft will no longer offer support for Windows XP or Microsoft Office 2003 products.
In both cases, end-of-support means that, even though the programs can still be used on a PC, users of these programs will no longer receive
- Assisted support
- Online content updates
- Automatic software updates from Microsoft Update
- Automatic security updates that protect users from harmful viruses, spyware and other malicious software that can steal personal information.
In a statement on their website, Microsoft states “In the interest of educating all our customers about Windows XP end-of-support, Windows Update will send a pop-up dialog box to reachable Windows XP machines with an end of support notification. The notification will state, ‘Learn about the end of support for Windows XP (April 8, 2014).’ The notification will first be sent on March 8, 2014 at 3pm local time, and is scheduled to be sent monthly thereafter.”
Only users who have set up Microsoft Update will receive the message. To stop Microsoft Update from sending future messages, click the “Don’t show this message again” box.
