The Monroe County Library System is partnering with Oaks Victory Village to offer Story Times before free community dinners.
Beginning February 15, 2017 children can enjoy stories while waiting for dinner to be served at the Oaks Victory Village on East Second Street in Monroe.
Nancy Bellaire, Director of the Monroe County Library System explains, “Our mission is to enrich the quality of life for all residents of the county. This is simply another avenue for us to provide library services and meet people where they are.”
According to Pastor Heather Boone, this is the largest meal of its kind in Monroe, serving approximately 200 people weekly. Each Wednesday the doors open at 5:30 pm and dinner is served by God Works! at 6:00 pm. The Library will fill that 30-minute gap with engaging stories for children to feed their imaginations and help develop a life-long love of reading.
“We are eager to partner with organizations like the Library to expand our services and meet the growing needs of our community today and into the future,” indicated Pastor Boone.
By providing children with a variety of reading experiences, they build vocabulary and other skills that will better prepare them for success in school and into adulthood.
Bellaire believes that, “Libraries and literacy are key to unlocking the potential within a person and a community. We are glad to be contributing to the solution.”
