Starting May 1, 2017, new hours will go into effect at six branches of the Monroe County Library System. Hours at the Erie, Ida, Luna Pier, Navarre, Petersburg, and South Rockwood Branches have been updated in order to better serve their communities. The decision was made after a month long process of gathering statistics and surveying visitors to MCLS branches. Data collected from user surveys, along with guidance from the Community Librarians at each of the six branches, were key in the decision making process.

“The Monroe County Library System serves a wonderfully diverse community. We strive to grow alongside our expanding neighborhoods and fulfill each area’s unique needs,” said Library Director, Nancy Bellaire. “Today’s patron is busier than ever, and our goal is to provide a welcoming experience for every visitor who comes through our doors.”
Adjusting How We Operate
The new branch hours were created within the existing Library budget. No additional tax dollars were used to provide the updates. After conducting public surveys, the Library reviewed its current staffing, hours and budget. “Most branches didn’t require a drastic change. We were therefore able to shift our operating hours to provide better public service in these locations,” said Director Bellaire.

The Monroe County Library System enriches the quality of life for all residents of the county by providing free access to informational, educational and recreational resources. Seeking user feedback and updating branch hours is one of the many ways that the Library strives to identify and meet public need. It is the Library’s goal to continue to add services, programs and resources that will provide the most benefit to the community and its residents.
